Bell Ringing Time, Where, When???

Hello everyone, this is request for HELP WITH THE BELL RINGING SEASON. This year the United Way of St. Francois County (UWSFC) will be setting up and getting the ringers for all the bells in this county, just like last year. We will have both doors at the Desloge and Farmington Wal-Mart stores. As you can imagine this is a tremendous undertaking, but the rewards could be really amazing for this county. Therefore, we could really use your help with this “Bell Ringing” fundraiser.

This is by far the largest fund raiser that the United Way of St. Francois County does. This one project could raise over $30,000 in the four weeks that it runs, from November 21st to December 23rd.  All this money that goes right back out to the 30 - 35 agencies that we fund each year. One can only imagine where we would be if we were not to have this project fully funded. All it takes to fund this project is about 650 hours of volunteer time to man the bell stands.

Please take the time to check out the sign-up schedules that are attached to our website and see if you can help the UWSFC raise the monies that we need to better serve our community. Simply go to our website, www.unitedwayofsfc.org, then click on the “Bell Ringing” section and the sign-up program will pop up. Pick out a location to ring and schedule your group. It would help if you would put your organization’s name in the space where it asks for the first name, then the person that is going to ring in the last name space. It might also help to put the contact information for the actual person doing the ringing that hour in the email or phone number space. By doing this the program will remind the actual person ringing about their ringing commitment about a day or two before they have to ring. Or simply give me a call and I can schedule your group for you. This works better if you are scheduling many hours, like a full day or multiple days.

There are a few changes due to the COVID situation:

​One: The kettles need be 15 to 20 feet away from the entrance and exit doors.

Two: All ringers must wear a mask.

Three: No more than 2 ringers at a bell stand unless they are family.  If not, family members they must be 6 feet apart.

Four: Finally, there will be a blue sign on the kettle that will have our QR code on it so that people who do not deal with cash can donate with their phone.

Please keep in mind that the giving season really IS NOT just from Thanksgiving to Christmas. THE NEED DOESN’T STOP ON DECEMBER 25th. We collect money all throughout the year and give it to 30-40 local agencies who take special care in helping out our neighbors in need with a “HAND UP” rather than a “HAND OUT” Hopefully we can get back to normal in 2021!!
