The Board of Directors of the United Way of St. Francois County has pledged to award 27 grants in 2016.  The United Way Board reviewed applications from agencies throughout St. Francois County and interviewed applicants to gain as much information as possible before making funding decisions. If fundraising is successful, the United Way will award over $175,000 to the agencies in June of  2016.

The United Way will fund the Caring Communities program at local school districts and East Missouri Action Agency. The county’s four senior centers, as well as six different food pantries, will benefit from the grants to be awarded. The rest will go to agencies that meet specific needs for people throughout the county. Agencies that will receive United Way funding are:

While fundraising goes on all year long through payroll deduction and utility bill donations, it begins in earnest in August with Dine Out for United Way. This year, the kickoff for Dine Out will be Thursday, August 7 at Shogun in Farmington, one of five newcomers to the list of 22 participating restaurants. United Way fundraising with Dine Out at restaurants occurs each Thursday from August 7 to November 20. In addition, there will be a Girls’ Night Out at Twin Oaks Vineyard and Winery on October 23, as well as other special events later in the fall. Wishing Wells will also be set up at area businesses to accept donations from November 28 through December 24. To find out more about giving to United Way, contact Anna Kleiner, Executive Director of the United Way of St. Francois County, at 760-8929 or anna@unitedwayofsfc.org.
